Richard Phillips (American, b. 1962) is an artist known for his large-scale hyper-realistic paintings, which are evocative of advertising in the 1950s-1970s. Phillips received his BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston and his MFA in Painting from the Yale University School of Art, New Haven. Phillips draws upon found imagery and creates compositions, which reference popular culture, sexuality, identity, and politics. Phillips has said “My pictures involve a kind of wasted beauty - that’s always been a thread in my work.” His work has been featured on the popular television show “Gossip Girl.”
