About Robert Cottingham

Robert Cottingham (American, b. 1935) is known for his photo-realistic depictions of signs, storefront marquees and letter forms, yet he does not consider himself a photorealist artist. His meticulous paintings and drawings depict American mid-century signs, typefaces, manual cameras, railroad boxcars, and mechanical components, or what he has called “tools of the Everyman,” in various dynamic compositions with intensified color and light. Cottingham earned his BFA from the Pratt Institute for Art and Design, New York and resides in New York City.
