Ryan McGinness (American, b.1972) is a contemporary artist based in New York, working across a variety of media such as painting, printing, and sculpture. McGinness attended Carnegie Mellon University as an Andrew Carnegie Scholar and worked as a curatorial assistant at the Andy Warhol Museum. His work draws on his experiences of adolescence in Virginia Beach, as well as the skate and surf culture he grew up with. His work incorporates graphic elements of public signage and corporate logos, as well as images from art history. His pieces have been exhibited and collected internationally by several important public institutions.
