About Sanford Biggers

Sanford Biggers (American, b. 1970) is an artist whose works span a variety of media, including film, video, and installation, as well as the more traditional mediums of drawing and sculpture. A native of Los Angeles currently based in Harlem, New York, Biggers explores issues of politics and identity in his intriguing conceptual works, which often touch on themes drawn from African-American culture, as well as Buddhism and Americana, drawing parallels between seemingly disconnected cultures. Biggers’s work has been exhibited widely and is in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among other institutions.
