Susan Aldworth is a British artist who lives and works in London. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work is held in many public and private collections worldwide.

Aldworth is fascinated by human consciousness, and the relationship between the physical brain and an individual’s sense of self is one that preoccupies her work.

Traces of a Childhood 2, is part of a suite of eight monoprints exploring memory and childhood, inspired by an anonymous gift to the artist of a collection of Edwardian baby clothes. The exquisitely made clothes inspired Aldworth to explore the ‘memory’ of the unknown children who had worn them. By transforming the clothes into printing plates, she ensures that each print has the direct ‘touch’ of the child on them. Aldworth adds individual whisps of hair and gold feathers to evoke both the heart of the child and the love of a mother.
