About Terry O'Neill

Fashion and celebrity photographer Terry O’Neill (English, b. 1938) began his career at Heathrow Airport, where he photographed a sleeping figure in the waiting area—the British Home Secretary. This image spurred his employment at ‘The Daily Sketch’ in 1959, and his first job of photographing Sir Laurence Olivier. Candidly capturing his subjects in unconventional settings, his work includes images of the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Judy Garland, Elton John, and the British Royal Family. In 2011, O’Neill was awarded the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal.
