Despite being initially authorized and manufactured, this controversial cover for The Beatles’ 'Yesterday and Today' album was banned by Capitol Records before distribution due to public outcry. While a majority of the “butcher” covers, depicting the band with dismembered dolls, were destroyed, some were simply covered with the approved cover art of the band and an open trunk. In the case of this work, the approved cover has since been peeled back to reveal the original, banned version beneath.
This work is accompanied by three photocopied letters from Capitol Records detailing the recall.
