Since 2003, Thomas Kellner has been photographing famous monuments and interiors around the world, deconstructing and then reconstructing them using a complex process that becomes his own visual language. Kellner starts by using a 35mm camera with color film to create hundreds of images, photographing close-up details of architectural structures. He then arranges each fragment into careful compositions in the formal context of contact sheets. The resulting images leave the original and iconic spaces to appear disjointed, forming entirely new and whimsical structures. In this print, Kellner portrays the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain (inaugurated in 1997), one of the most renowned works of contemporary architecture designed by Frank Gehry.
