Tom Sachs (American, b. 1966) is a contemporary artist known for his reconstructions of modern icons using duct tape, foam core, plywood, phone books, and glue guns. Through his work, he counterfeits capitalist cultural icons such as Hello Kitty, Chanel, Hermes, Tiffany’s, and McDonald’s. Sachs refashions objects in a crude, almost masochistic way, as nothing is erased, polished, or sanded; thus revealing the process and insinuating that nothing is ever “finished.”
