Trudy Benson (American, b. 1985) is an American artist whose practice is derived from rudimentary drawing computer programs such as Microsoft Paint and Brushes in what can be described as Maximalist Abstraction. Her large swaths of colors offer her canvas a textural and tactile sensibility and simultaneously pay tribute to various crude art forms including graffiti and early video games. Benson’s gestural works are geometric and smooth, for a dynamic juxtaposition of smooth and glossy forms with deliberate arrangement. She received her MFA from Pratt Institute and her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University.
