Completed shortly after John Lennon’s death, Yoko Ono’s ‘Seasons of Glass’ album cover controversially featured Lennon’s bloody glasses from the night of his assassination and a glass of “half full/half empty” water. Using the cover and a poem by Ono, this work is the original production paste-up for Billboard magazine’s advertisement for the album. It consists of four layers of mylar, which allowed magazine editors to combine or paste different designs together before resulting in the final image. Handwritten editor markups can also be seen noting the page in which this ad would appear.
